As part of our continious learning and training efforts Gaynor Mindens National Sales Manager, Blake Latin recently came to visit our DWC Team to give everyone an in depth look at Gaynor Minden pointe shoes. She broke down the shoe, explaining the purpose of every piece inside and out, including the modern materials used to make this shoe different from the traditional pointe shoe. Blake reviewed the advantages that come with using Gaynor Minden pointe shoe accessories. She then shared all of her knowledge and personal tips on how to properly fit a Gaynor pointe shoe, giving our team a real insiders look.
After spending the morning training and sharing our experiences, we were also able to snag an interview with this master pointe shoe fitter.
How long have you been a dancer?
I believe I danced my way out of the womb! My earliest memory was swaying to the music in a playpen at my mother’s dance studio in Brooklyn, NY. I’ve danced my way through life via ballet, jazz, tap and ballroom.
Could you share with us some of your dance history?
I studied with my mother through my 18 years, and attended Fokine Ballet Camp in beautiful Lenox, Mass. in the summers. I was chosen to dance with NYCB in their summer programs in 1968-1970. I was also a soloist with the Saratoga Civic Ballet Company. The Joffrey Ballet School in New York offered me a scholarship in 1971. My junior year in high school was spent at the National Academy of Ballet in NYC. Upon graduation from High School, I decided to continue my education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. I graduated in 1982 with my Associate of Arts degree.
Do you still dance today?
Absolutely! When music plays, my body moves.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Educating, inspiring and supporting the retail market to grow and flourish.
Why do you prefer Gaynor Minden pointe shoes over other brands?
There are so many reasons. There are the obvious practical ones, such as the durability, the comfort, the quietness, the fitting system that lets you choose so many of the specifications, the fast service, the fact that they actually encourage correct technique…but perhaps what’s more important are the psychological reasons: when you wear Gaynor Mindens you don’t have to worry about your shoes anymore. You know they won’t change or give out on you — that is so liberating for a dancer. You can give yourself totally to your dancing because your mind is free. That’s when dancing becomes joyful. And why dance if not for the joy of it? They are beautiful and sleek pointe shoes, and Gaynor Mindens are made in the USA!
