Audition season is just around the corner so it is important for dancers to start getting prepared for what auditions they will attend sooner rather than later. Whether you are going into an audition for a company, a college, or a role; these tips will help you prepare for them.

1 Be Well Rested

The best way to make sure that you do a good job in an audition is to start off by getting some sleep before it takes place. Getting a good nights sleep will help you stock up your energy and help you concentrate on the audition at hand. Auditions can be stressful, but the only way to make sure that you are doing your best in them is to go in with the best mindset. Getting a good night’s sleep will help you do your best at the auditions and it will help you get yourself in the right mindset before going into the audition. So set yourself up for success and get some sleep.

2 Wear The Right Outfit

Your wardrobe is very important when auditioning. It is important to feel confident in whatever you choose to wear.  However, that being said it is also important to adhere to the auditions dress code. If it is clearly stated that dancers must wear black leotards and pink tights that means that you should show up wearing a black leotard and pink tights, not a purple leotard and black tights or a bra top and legging. We have a whole blog giving some advice for what to wear to an audition so click here to check that one out.

3 Attitude is important

One of the most important things to remember when going in for the audition is your attitude. Auditions are not just about testing your dance skills, they are about seeing how you will interact with the director, choreographer, and your fellow auditionees. Being courteous to the other dancers auditioning is incredibly important. Directors are also looking for people who will mesh well with their company. So how you behave in an audition will give directors an idea of how you will work in the studio or on the job. In auditions, the directors or choreographers do not expect you to be perfect. What they are looking for is how well you listen and react to what they are asking you to do. So come into the audition with a great attitude; listen carefully and do your best.

4 Brace For Rejection

Being a dancer is one of the hardest professions out there.  Mostly because it is a profession that is riddled with rejection. The most important thing to remember when going through the audition process is to trust that there is a place that will love to have you in their company. However, knowing this will not make the pain of rejection hurt any less. Remember that just because the director does not hire you it does not mean that you are a bad dancer, it just means that you don’t fit the style of the company.

5 Never Stop Auditioning

Most importantly, when faced with rejection the worst thing you can do is give up. No matter how many times a dancer is rejected never stop auditioning. You will find the company or job that will be happy to have you so don’t give up hope, stay positive, and keep auditioning.
