Fueling your body when it needs energy is one of the best things you can do to maintain healthy body composition and staying at your best in the dance world. Dancing for hours and hours a night, going to long without anything to fuel your body can result in loss of muscle mass. Healthy snacking is the best way to prevent this!

peanut butterPeanut butter is a great hunger killer containing protein and healthy fats. It also has a high-antioxidant content with loads of vitamin E. Not all peanut butter is created equal. Some are made from only peanuts and salt which is what you want. Unhealthy peanut butters are made with a combination of peanuts, sugar and a variety of oils (including hydrogen fats). When snacking, stick with 1-tablespoon portions to dip fruit in or spread on whole-grain crackers.

Corn is a whole grain and when air-popped, it contains about 30 calories per cup along with 5 percent of the recommended daily dose of fiber. Sprinkle with a touch of sea salt or a drizzle of olive oil instead of the commonly used butter and you’ve got a smart snack!

Dried fruit offers an easy way to add fiber and antioxidants into your diet. When fruit is dried, the sugar and other nutrients become more condensed, making portion control important. It is a great alternative when fresh varieties are out of season.
