DanceWear Corner Spotlight: Daltrey Schmidt

Daltrey Schmidt is the first winner of the Kathryn Morgan DWC Scholarship. She will be heading all the way to Russia to further her dance studies. With all that she has going on with in the month of February we wanted to get to know her better.

1.  What is your favorite dance class to take?

I absolutely love taking a basic ballet technique class. My favorite aspect of ballet is the daily work, just going into the studio and perfecting everything!

2. What’s your favorite piece of dance clothing you own/ owned?

My favorite piece of dancing clothing is is one of my navy blue Yumiko leotards; they’re so comfortable and really flattering.

3. If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?

I would probably either bake pastries and cookies all night, or try to go to the ballet more often and see every single program at San Francisco Ballet.

4. What songs have you completely memorized?

I love “Wings” by Mackelmore; it’s my shower jam!

5. Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?

You can’t go wrong with Beyonce or John Legend!

DanceWear Corner Spotlight Dancer Lauren Mortimer

Lauren Mortimer did a beautiful photo shoot with Jessica Wallis and Alexis Ziemski from Ballet in the City, but we wanted to know a little bit more about her.

1. What did you love about the experience?

I was honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with Dancewear Corner and Ballet in the City for a photo shoot to model dancewear.  I loved modeling and posing in beautiful dancewear and accessories outside, while it snowed.  Jessica Wallis and Alexis Ziemski are awesome to work with and we had fun traveling to a greenhouse for the photoshoot too.  Alexis is an amazing photographer! It’s an experience that I will never forget.

2. What challenges have you overcome in dance and how has that made you a better dancer?

One of the biggest challenges that I had to overcome in dance was four years ago.  I broke my foot five weeks before my studio’s recital.  I was in a boot cast for 3 ½ weeks and had little time to rehab my foot before the recital.  I managed to strengthen my foot and perform in seven numbers.  This injury taught me to focus, even more, on proper technique.  More ballet classes make a stronger dancer!

3. What they liked about the dancewear?

Dancewear Corner provided leotards, tights, Capezio leggings, and other accessories from “Crushing It” the Nutcracker Collection including a white crop tee, bag, white tumbler, and lip balm for the photoshoot.   The dance attire was beautiful, stylish, and most important, easy to move in.  The Nutcracker Collection is perfect for the upcoming holiday season.  I love all of the items!

4. What’s next for you in the world of dance?

In the coming year, I plan to attend more Ballet in the City master classes.  I am preparing for spring dance competitions, our dance studio’s recital, and a trip to NYC.  Thank you to Dancewear Corner and Ballet in the City for selecting me for this project.  I had so much fun!

If I didn’t have to sleep I would go to Disneyland!!
